Partnering in Care: Referrals to New Chapter TMS

At New Chapter TMS, we work alongside providers and community partners to support patients with depression who may benefit from additional treatment options.

TMS is not a replacement for ongoing care. It is a focused intervention that can help patients move forward when progress has stalled, while allowing them to continue working with the providers who know them best.

For Primary Care Providers

Primary care providers are often the first to identify and manage depression, initiate treatment, and follow patients over time.

TMS may be an appropriate option when:

  • patients have not responded to antidepressant medications

  • medication side effects limit treatment options

  • symptoms persist despite ongoing care

  • patients are seeking a non-pharmacologic approach

We commonly see patients who have tried multiple medications or combinations of treatments and are still not experiencing meaningful improvement.

How We Support Your Care

Our role is to provide a specific, targeted intervention while maintaining continuity with your care.

  • Patients remain under your care throughout treatment

  • We focus specifically on TMS

  • We communicate and coordinate when appropriate

  • Patients return to you for ongoing management after treatment

TMS is one part of a broader treatment plan — not a replacement for primary care or medication management.

Doctor and Patient
When to Consider a Referral

Patients who:

  • have tried multiple medications without sufficient improvement

  • remain functionally impaired

  • are not progressing as expected over time

  • are struggling to tolerate medication side effects

Student Doing Homework

For School Counselors, Educators, and Youth Support Providers

Adolescents and young adults often experience depression differently, and may not respond to early interventions as expected.

Because you are often closest to changes in behavior, engagement, and functioning, your role in recognizing when additional support may be needed is important.

When a Student May Need Additional Support
  • withdrawal from school or activities

  • declining academic performance

  • persistent low mood or disengagement

  • limited response to counseling or initial interventions

How TMS Fits In

TMS may be considered for adolescents and young adults who are not improving with initial treatment approaches.

At New Chapter TMS, we have experience working with this population and evaluating whether TMS is appropriate based on individual circumstances.

How to Help a Student Access Care

In Washington State, adolescents may be able to access outpatient mental health care beginning in their early teens.

You can:

  • encourage the student to speak with a medical provider

  • help connect families or guardians when appropriate

  • direct students or families to New Chapter TMS for consultation

We aim to make the process clear and supportive, while respecting the student’s situation and level of independence.

For Therapists, Counselors, and Mental Health Providers

We recognize the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the continuity of care you provide.

TMS is not intended to replace therapy. It is used as an additional tool when patients are not making the progress you would expect despite ongoing treatment.

Our Approach to Collaboration
  • Patients continue working with you during treatment

  • We focus specifically on TMS

  • We support the broader treatment plan you’ve established

  • Patients return to your care following treatment

How TMS Can Support Therapy

For some patients, depression symptoms can make it difficult to fully engage in therapy.

By reducing symptom severity, TMS may help patients:

  • participate more consistently

  • engage more effectively in sessions

  • build on the work already being done in therapy

Working Together

Our goal is to support the progress you are helping your patient achieve.

TMS is one component of care — not a replacement for the therapeutic relationship.
